On the path to decarbonisation

Our world is changing. The way we travel, produce power, run our industries and move goods is becoming more sustainable. This drive for greater sustainability is coupled with a reduced dependency on fossil / carbon-based fuels.

There are many paths to decarbonisation - there is no 'one size fits all' - and though urgent action is needed, little can be achieved overnight. It is a journey, one that balances the need for lower emissions (both greenhouse gas emissions and local emissions of NOx, VOC PM, etc.) with economic realities.

On the path to decarbonisation, Johnson Matthey continues to help our customers meet their emissions targets.

JM's technology reduces emissions from large point sources, such as from power generation, shipping, mining and industrial processes. JM has the largest portfolio of catalytic technologies in the industry and our catalytic components play a key role in removing pollutants such as NOx, CO, hydrocarbons and particulate material before they enter the atmosphere. Our engine systems expertise helps to ensure optimum performance of the Johnson Matthey catalytic technologies for the most reliable operation. And a cleaner, healthier world.

Innovating for over 60 years

Clever chemistry - driving innovation

In the 1950s scientists at Johnson Matthey identified that catalytic technology could reduce emissions from combustion and related processes. For over 60 years JM has been both a technology and market leader in the manufacture and supply of catalytic components that reduce emissions from engines, boilers and industrial processes. JM is leading the way in controlling emissions from renewable and biodiesel fuels.

But clever chemistry isn't always enough to make our customers' products stand out in highly competitive markets. We collaborate with our clients, understanding their challenges and appreciating the critical details to inform our product development and shape our product management.

Reducing emissions from large point sources

Our emissions control technology is effective in many applications, including:

  • Back up generators for data centres
  • Power generation (including waste incinerators)
  • International and domestic shipping
  • Mining operations
  • Industrial processes - glass and cement
  • Petrochemical processes
  • Food and agricultural sector operations

Our catalyst technology reduces emissions from higher temperature fuel cell applications (such as solid oxide fuel cells). JM's reforming and combustion technologies facilitate fuel flexibility and are used in fuel processing (of natural gas or ammonia to hydrogen), improving efficiency and operational performance. JM is committed to helping our customers as they take cleaner and greener pathways to decarbonisation.
