Johnson Matthey SINOx® plate and honeycomb catalysts are ideal for controlling air pollution from the high-dust exhaust from cement manufacturing plants. Cement manufacturing is at the heart of the world’s construction industry. The process is energy intensive and large quantities of petroleum-based fuels, coal and even tires are burned to generate the high temperatures necessary to fire the cement. As a result, the offgas from cement manufacturing not only contains dust, but also contains high concentrations of NOx and impurities such calcium and sulfur that can be challenging for catalytic air pollution control.

Dust loads of more than 100 g/Nm³ make this application especially challenging for catalytic emission control. Dust can plug the channels of the catalyst and can erode the catalyst itself. But Johnson Matthey is dedicated to research and development. We participated in testing of catalysts in full-size and slip-stream reactors in cement plants in Germany, Austria and Italy and this experience has enabled us to develop our portfolio of SINOx® honeycomb SCR catalysts and SINOx® plate SCR catalysts that can handle the dust and contaminants characteristic of cement plants. Used with the appropriate dust control technologies, our SCR catalyst systems provide long-term NOx control with fewer maintenance shut-downs.
